The new Costa Rica Convention Center (CRCC) was inaugurated on April 5, 2018, near Belen in Heredia province, and the CRCC plans to boost meeting tourism with this new structure that took just over one year to complete, with an investment of $35 million dollars.
This project has already taken the country’s meetings and conventions offerings to new heights, with nearly 80 international congresses confirmed between 2017 and 2021, which is expected to generate an economic impact of around $250 million dollars.
The new convention center is located next to the Cariari Mall in Heredia on the principal highway that connects the international airport with the capital of San Jose. You can view a map here.
Offering 15,600 square meters of eco-friendly construction, the new complex is designed to be a smart event space for small or large functions and gatherings. The convention center has the capacity for 6,500 people and parking for 1,000 vehicles, 40 full-size buses, and 80 mini-buses.
Eco-friendly features include, naturally lit interior spaces, with LED lighting, solar water heating, as well as high-technology audio and video equipment.
With this new initiative, Costa Rica advanced 10 positions in the world ranking of meetings tourism, according to the International Congress and Convention Association, (ICCA).
The Costa Rican Association of Professionals in Tourism, (ACOPROT), is the organizer of the countries largest tourism fair which attracts thousands of tourism professionals from around the globe every year, and they are looking forward to the 34th edition of EXPOTUR to be held at the new convention center from April 20 until the 28th, 2018.
